I think people click YouTube videos for two reasons - for information or to be entertained. If I'm looking for information, I need the person I'm watching to be first and foremost...real and on my level.
By that I mean they're not talking down to you like you're clueless (even though you might actually be
), but that they've been in your shoes and they understand where you're coming from.
Another thing that makes me trust YouTubers - without even looking at their subscriber count or video views - is that they have the thing I'm wanting to get information about with them right infront of the video. So if you're telling me how to fix a lawnmower, show me a broken lawnmower and what you're doing to fix it. Don't just take your working lawnmower and point out the steps. It's easy to forget the small things that aren't obvious to someone doing if for the first time.
I don't really think much about channel subscribers and video views when it comes to YouTuber credibility. I can judge someone's knowledge pretty quickly just by reading their body language and what they're saying. First impressions are everything when it comes to YouTube.
Maybe if videos started by the person saying "You have a broken lawnmower and I have one too. I know how to fix it so let's get to it." They have the lawnmower on the work table or floor That would make me stay and watch.
For entertainment videos - I don't really know if it matters if about trust. They're either entertaining or suck.
