So the first thing that comes to mind - police chase / pursuit videos. I've seen it where there's a narrator (why? It's obvious the cops are chasing the bad guy 🤷) and the car gets spun out by the cops. The video stops then shows several 2-3 second clips of the car being spun out again. Maybe it's so viewers can re-watch the spin out? But it just feels like padding to me, especially when the narrator says exactly what is happening on screen.

It's like the commentator thinks the viewers are stupid?

I'm not sure, maybe I'm wrong??

If the video has a ton of b-roll, that can cause the video to feel longer than it really is. The internet has given people hyper speed information at the touch of their fingertips. If the video is stuffed full of b-roll that can make it feel longer.

Maybe people don't care if it feels longer, as long as they're getting the info or entertainment they need?

If they take 80% of the vid to actually get to the point of the video or if the video has 100 chapters that are like 1 minute long each. Feels like im wasting my time.
I think the channels that use chapters in their videos are actually reducing their watch time 👇🏻…instead of helping themselves ✅.

You can skip all of the video that you didn’t want to see and just focus in on the bits you came to find 🕵️.

The channel won’t have as high a watch time because no one watches the full thing ⏱️👀.

Maybe it’s just me I don’t know 🤷🏼.

I was happy to see that YouTube added the feature where you can 2x speed up the playback of the video on mobile by tapping and holding on the screen.

Saved me some time.

Do you know if the channels can see if people are skipping through their videos instead of watching the whole thing âť“

I dont have a channel so I dont know about if they can see how much they watch. It doesnt help if there are 100 chapters I just want to watch the video.

I didnt know about the speeding up thing. Does it work on my phone or is it just on computers? How do u do it?

Yeah you can do it on your phone. Just hold your finger down on the screen. I dont think you can go backwards just only forwards. Handy if they are tutorial videos and they are slow to explain it lol.

You can also double tap on the right or left sides of the screen on mobile to skip 5 seconds forwards or backwards. Super handy.

I've just seen that YouTube has "premium" controls now where you can skip forward and back, change the quality, change the speed with a slider, save it, like it. Lots of stuff here's a screen shot.

Youtube premium controls.webp
