So the first thing that comes to mind - police chase / pursuit videos. I've seen it where there's a narrator (why? It's obvious the cops are chasing the bad guy
) and the car gets spun out by the cops. The video stops then shows several 2-3 second clips of the car being spun out again. Maybe it's so viewers can re-watch the spin out? But it just feels like padding to me, especially when the narrator says exactly what is happening on screen.
It's like the commentator thinks the viewers are stupid?
I'm not sure, maybe I'm wrong??
If the video has a ton of b-roll, that can cause the video to feel longer than it really is. The internet has given people hyper speed information at the touch of their fingertips. If the video is stuffed full of b-roll that can make it feel longer.
Maybe people don't care if it feels longer, as long as they're getting the info or entertainment they need?
